Calculating tides…
How to read the table
Understand the tide in 1 minute.
In Japaratinga, natural pools appear when the tide drops below 0.5 m. Choose a day with a daytime low tide and leave around an hour before the time shown.
01High tide
High tide occurs twice a day, around every 12 hours 25 minutes — the sea covers the reefs and the sandy beach narrows.
02Low tide
At low tide, the reefs emerge and natural pools form — the best time for a jangada (traditional raft) trip.
03New and full moon
Around these moon phases, spring tides bring higher high tides and lower low tides. These are the best days for the pools.

Our tip
Bring sunscreen and water shoes for walking on the reefs, and do not touch the corals — they are part of the APA Costa dos Corais protected area.
